"When did we become a FULL time cloth diapering family??"

So I came to the realization that we are now a full time cloth diapering family! I cannot actually give you a date that we made the switch but I just realized this tonight! Ha!!

At the beginning of J's life, we were all sposies..all the time. J liked to dirty diapers when he was first born. He liked the boob so much..and the amount of wet/soiled diapers in a day were not slowing down. At the time I didn't know about 'modern day' cloth diapers. My MIL asked before J was born if we wanted to to do a diaper service and I asked her to explain what had/needed to be done in order to do cloth diapers. After her story about "way back when" cloth I was scared out of my mind and declined the offer.

It wasn't til J was about 3 months that I started reading about all the different types/brands of diapers out on the market. After reading all the facts about disposable diapers I knew that it was an easy switch. C on the other hand thought I was crazy. I started explaining to him that cloth is a much wiser choice and that it would save us a bunch of money. He agreed to doing PART TIME cloth. Meaning I would cloth J at home (while he was at work) and only if he didn't have to wash them (He doesn't do the laundry anyways)

He wasn't to sure about this or he was filling his pants!

Now I was on the hunt for a great starter kit. Since I was new to cloth I chose a brand (Bummis) and went with it. I read many reviews and thought to myself that it was a good choice to go with the Starter Kit with Prefolds and Covers. I really loved the kit. It came with everything I needed to start cloth. I followed the directions to a T and off I went.

We used the Bummis with J for about 3 weeks. I was having issues with leaks and bulk. So I decided would try a new diaper cover. I still really like the prefolds but I thought maybe I needed to try another cover so on to the next!!

I decided to go with gDiapers. I bought a a few 2 sets of them from our local London Drugs, along with the disposable inserts. I planned on using my prefolds and covers more than the sposie inserts. But alas, the bulk was still there and I ended up buying Gerber flats and using those as a gDiaper insert. I sold my prefolds and covers to a couple who had used them since their wee one was born. My first diaper sale hahah!

I got crafty with my flats and made inserts from them. Yes I cut the flats to the correct size for medium gDiapers and sewed a flannel top and a fleece bottom. Took some time but they were fantastic. J was in g's all day and all night. I loved cloth at home. But we still used sposie diapers (Huggies) when we were out and about.

`
Here's J in his Medium Vanilla g. I loved the ease of them Snap a liner on the cute cover and place in one of my homemade inserts. Easy as pie. Once dirty put into wet bag. Remember to wash in 2 days. We exclusively used gDiapers with J for 6 months. But again we were ONLY using them at home. When we left the house he was out of cloth and into a sposie. Translation: sure I was saving some money, BUT I wanted to save more!

I started to use the g's out of the home with the sposie inserts (I still had a whole pack laying around) By this time J was out of mediums and on to Large. We used the remaining sposie inserts and continued with just cloth at home and only at the inlaws. The large g's were not fitting J correctly. He was in the right weight rang but he is on the smaller side in height and the g's were leaving red rashes on his hips. After talking it through with C (Who by the way is SO on board with cloth now it's kinda funny) we decided it was time to retire the g's and move on to something else... well that's what I keep telling myself.

I'll cut it off there and will blog about my next step in cloth diapering, tomorrow. I don't want to make it too long. So tomorrow I will do a post on Baby Kangas OS pocket diaper.. Followed by my Rumparooz OS G2.

I'm really excited to do this. I will also do a few posts on some new products that I just found out about. Taslie and Tetro Fitted Diapers from Snaps and Snails!

Much love xox

His First Haircut!!

So on Monday C and I decided that it was time for J to get a haircut. I tried last week to cut his bangs and he threw a fit and didn't let me anywhere near him. So I gave up.

C on the other hand thought, well let`s buzz his head. EEK! J has gorgeous blond hair and I didn't want to take it ALL off. So we came to a compromise.
So here he is... and his BRAND SPANKIN' new hair do! A Mullet!!
Here`s a side view. I must say he looks much much different. He looks older. And SO handsome!

So that's that. His first hair cut. I also saved every lock that was buzzed from his head. xoxox

Pure Bliss....in a Blissful Booty Cloth Diaper

Yay! This is my very first cloth diaper review. I will be reviewing the Blissful Booty AIO cloth diaper (Large Celery) This is my very first AIO cloth diaper. We have been using pocket diapers and some prefold. I was hesitant to use an AIO just due to drying time. Anyways, on to the review!

I won this Blissful Booty diaper last month during a fan giveaway on their page. I was SO very excited to have won a diaper. I love winning fluff! But I was particularly excited to win this diaper. I had been reading others reviews on this diaper and I was itching to try this diaper on J.

Everyone kept saying how soft they were, and how absorbent etc etc. So when I got a call saying that it had come in, I was jumping up and down (literally)! I tore open the package and was immediately surprised on how soft the outer fabric was. Not to mention the packaging, with the great green ribbon.
What I love about the outside of this diaper:

The crossover tabs are a wonderful feature on this diaper. I chose a large diaper (My son is 25+ lbs) and it's still a little big on his. We probably could have gotten away with a medium, with that being said at least he has room to grow into it. Having the crossover tabs makes a more snug fit on his chubby belly. The out material is super soft and not scratchy like some other diapers.

The inside!

So the inside of this diaper is SO SO SO soft.(no-pill microfleece) I cannot even describe how soft the inside of this diaper is. Maybe I can compare it to how soft my son`s bum it hehe! I love the double leg gussets. That`s a feature I`ve been looking to have in my diapers. I honestly believe at they really do keep in the messiest of messes.

The laundry tabs hold on to the aplix tabs very well. I washed the diaper the day I got it and no diaper chains in my laundry! I love that!

The elastic in the back and the front of the diaper is also great. You get a good custom fit around the tummy and back. (I do have a small tear in the back of the diaper where the sewing machine missed the diaper, but that's so minor, something I can fix on my own!)

Compared to my other diapers the Blissful Booty AIO has the best inside material, hands down!

The laundering of this diaper is just like all my other pocket diapers. It took just as long as all the other ones to dry. I love that! I can tell that this is going to be my GO TO diaper. My next 'experiment' is to use it over night. Let's see if it can hold up to 14+ hours of sleep!!

Action shots!

J's first time in his new AIO diaper! All smiles!

The fit is good, but like I said before, we could have possibly fit in a medium diaper. But I'm glad we have the large. He can grow into it. The crossover tabs make for a excellent fit on his tummy. He napped in it, and there were no leaks. Now I'm just waiting for a number 2 job to see how the leg gussets hold up!

Thank you Cathy for my new diaper! I really REALLY love it! ~ Love J

I would like to thank Catherine at Blissful Booty for making a wonderful cloth diaper. I cannot wait to try more of your products and to add some more AIO to our diaper stash.

Update on the sickies!

Well, here's an update. J and I are still both sick. While J is on the mend, mommy (that's me) is still stuffed up, sneezing like a banshee and my ears are plugged. I can barely hear out of them!

It's times like this that I am glad I am a part time SAHM. While I do have to go to work tomorrow, at least I had the last few days off to try and kick this cold to the curb. J still has a low grade fever (it has spiked to 102.0) but I have always been able to cool him down and regulate it. He still has a cough, and a runny nose but both of those are at the tail end of the sickness. The only thing besides the fever that worried me was his swollen tear duct. It just looks painful. Plus it doesn't help that he's CONSTANTLY rubbing it.

His appetite is slowly coming back. I found it so odd that my child didn't want to eat his food!! He LOVES food, but not so much since being sick! I made french toast this morning and it ended up all over the floor. I'm really hoping that he decides to starting eating again. (I'm really glad he still nurses, otherwise I'd be hesitant to skip a meal)
As his first cold is coming to an end, I'm thankful that nothing else came of it. My happy-go-lucky little man is on the mend and I can't wait see him all better!

Much love!
